Talk with sr. max baucus
Today’s talk was given by the US ambassador to China, Max Baucus. He was extremely skeptical about my thoughts about the possibility of the ‘world government’, dismissing the idea just in second. (I later found out that Nick Bostrom has had the same idea with me, founding a transnational organization which can mostly govern scientific activities and some other parts of the human activities). I raised the question in terms of Internet Governance, as the experience of my generation is drastically different from the past generation. Although I’ve been born to Korean Peninsula, I’ve come to make more friends outside Korea rather than inside the territory. As much as the concept of ‘nation-state’ is fragile, as is current world order and the status of international organizations. I’ve been also thinking about this issue - convergence of cultures and thus the rise of new type of organization for the earth- for long, and this is still a working agenda for me (and the world in general)
In beijing
Finally got to Beijing University (called ‘Beida’ in abbreviation) and can’t wait to see the Zhunguanchon, so called sillicon Valley of China.
On and from nick bostrom's 'superintelligence'
Nick Bostrom’s Superintelligences asks us what can happen if machine intelligence can exceed that of humans. Like other AI experts, he also warns us about the unpredictable outcome which will follow the unmanaged growth of Artificial Intelligence. However, rather than focusing on the specific strands of ethics studies, he tries to provide readers with a wide range of up-to-date technologies which enable machines to think outside the realm of human intelligence.
Korean public diplomacy forum
I had a presentation for this Forum, which is held for the first time in South Korea. I talked about how Korea can contribute to the world by establishing new center for ethics of science and technology center, but topics are not limited to this. You can download my presentation slides below.
