Talk with sr. max baucus

Today’s talk was given by the US ambassador to China, Max Baucus. He was extremely skeptical about my thoughts about the possibility of the ‘world government’, dismissing the idea just in second. (I later found out that Nick Bostrom has had the same idea with me, founding a transnational organization which can mostly govern scientific activities and some other parts of the human activities). I raised the question in terms of Internet Governance, as the experience of my generation is drastically different from the past generation. Although I’ve been born to Korean Peninsula, I’ve come to make more friends outside Korea rather than inside the territory. As much as the concept of ‘nation-state’ is fragile, as is current world order and the status of international organizations. I’ve been also thinking about this issue - convergence of cultures and thus the rise of new type of organization for the earth- for long, and this is still a working agenda for me (and the world in general)

I will also gonna give a talk about this (Possible convergence of cultures throughout the world) as well in STS Italia this September. Although I haven’t found a definite answer to this - whether people will remain divided, just because of the languages, which seem to be fast overcome with machine translation- from new generation’s perspective, this is a highly possible scenario.
